Terms of Service

Effective date: May 19, 2026

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using CivicLens ("Service," "we," "us," or "our"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use our Service. These Terms apply to all visitors, users, and others who access the Service.

2. Description of Service

CivicLens is a civic intelligence platform that helps everyday Americans understand how legislation affects their lives. We aggregate publicly available legislative data, apply artificial intelligence to summarize and personalize it, and deliver those insights directly to you via email, push notifications, and our web application.

CivicLens is designed to be politically neutral. Our summaries and AI-generated content are intended to inform, not to persuade. We do not endorse any political party, candidate, or position.

3. Accounts and Registration

To access certain features, you must create an account. You agree to:

  • Provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration
  • Maintain and promptly update your account information
  • Keep your password secure and not share it with others
  • Notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account
  • Be at least 13 years old to create an account

You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.

4. Subscription Plans and Billing

CivicLens offers a free tier and paid subscription plans. Paid subscriptions are billed monthly through our payment processor, Stripe. By subscribing, you authorize us to charge your payment method on a recurring basis until you cancel.

You may cancel your subscription at any time through the Settings page. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period — you will retain access to paid features until then. We do not provide refunds for partial billing periods.

We reserve the right to change subscription prices with 30 days' notice. Continued use after the notice period constitutes acceptance of the new pricing.

5. AI-Generated Content

CivicLens uses artificial intelligence to generate bill summaries, personalized impact statements, and related content. While we strive for accuracy, AI-generated content may contain errors, omissions, or outdated information. You should not rely solely on CivicLens for legal, political, or financial advice.

AI-generated summaries are for informational purposes only. Always consult the official legislative text and qualified professionals before making decisions based on legislative information.

6. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of applicable laws
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to our systems or other users' accounts

7. Intellectual Property

The Service and its original content, features, and functionality are owned by CivicLens and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws. Our trademarks and trade dress may not be used without our prior written permission.

OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ANY CLAIMS ARISING FROM THESE TERMS OR YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM.

11. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account at any time for violation of these Terms, fraudulent activity, or any other reason at our sole discretion. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination will remain in effect.

12. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to its conflict of law principles. Any dispute arising from these Terms shall be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Delaware, and you consent to personal jurisdiction there.
