CivicLens is built on a simple promise: your personal information is used to help you understand legislation, and nothing else. We don't sell your data, we don't advertise against it, and we collect only what's necessary to make the product work. This policy explains exactly what we collect, why, and how you can control it.
CivicLens is a nonpartisan legislation-tracking service operated by Odin Systems (Portland, Oregon). We help everyday people understand and act on federal and state legislation that affects their lives.

Account information — your email address and password (stored securely via Supabase Auth).
Life profile — occupation, location (state and congressional district), family status, and interests. You provide this during onboarding. It is used exclusively to match relevant legislation to your life — never for advertising or profiling.
Behavioral data — anonymized events such as which bills you viewed, whether you opened your weekly digest, and whether you contacted a representative. This data never includes your profile attributes.
Push notification token — a device identifier used to deliver push notifications. Stored only while your account is active.
Payment information — if you subscribe to a paid tier, payments are processed by Stripe. CivicLens stores only your subscription status; we never see or store your card number.
CivicLens uses AI to generate plain-English summaries of legislation and to match bills to your life profile. This involves two third-party services:
Anthropic Claude — used to summarize bill text into plain English. Only publicly available bill text is sent to Anthropic. Your personal profile data is never shared with Anthropic.
Voyage AI — used to compute semantic embeddings of bill text and user profiles for relevance matching. Profile data is processed in vector form and is not shared as identifiable information.
By creating a CivicLens account, you consent to public bill text being processed by these services on your behalf. You may withdraw consent at any time by deleting your account.
All personal data is stored in Supabase, a PostgreSQL database hosted in the United States. Access to your data is protected by row-level security — you can only access your own records. We use industry-standard encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest. We do not store plaintext passwords.
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we permanently delete your profile, behavioral events, push tokens, digests, and relevance records within 30 days. Behavioral event logs are retained for a rolling 13-month window, after which they are aggregated and purged.
To exercise any of these rights, use the controls in your account Settings or contact privacy@civiclensapp.com.
CivicLens is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you by email and update the effective date at the top of this page. Your continued use of CivicLens after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
We're a small team and we take privacy seriously. Email us directly — a real person will respond.
